PPS and BOA Partner on Advanced Tactile Sensing Helmet Tech
Tactile sensing specialist PPS has entered into a partnership with BOA, a leading provider of dial-based performance fit systems for helmets, footwear, and other products.
The collaboration will focus on developing a new tactile sensing headform to enhance helmet fit and performance through real-time pressure mapping, utilizing advanced tactile sensing technology.
TactileHead System Supports Design and Engineering
PPS’s TactileHead system will support BOA throughout the design and engineering process, from concept to prototype testing. The technology accurately measures and visualises the interaction between headwear and the complex geometry of the human head, enabling comprehensive pressure analysis to optimise helmet design.
Enhancing Helmet Fit and PERFORMANCe for Athletes
By leveraging PPS’s tactile sensing expertise, BOA aims to produce helmets that conform precisely to the head while eliminating pressure points, enhancing performance. The project reflects PPS’s broader mission to help companies understand the contact mechanics of wearable products to improve fit and functionality.
BOA, known for its performance fit solutions used by top athletes and brands such as Oakley and Anon, intends to expand the range of helmet fit options available to its customers.
Executive Insights: Driving Innovation Through Tactile Sensing
Dr Jae Son, CEO and Founder of PPS, said: “By providing the TactileHead with custom modifications, we can help BOA achieve its goal of creating top-performing helmets through a dynamic 360-degree fit system that performs well and is comfortable.”
Dan Feeney, VP of Partner Product Innovation & Development at BOA Technology, added: “PPS’s ability to create incredibly sensitive and repeatable systems with tactile sensors on headforms allows us to make the best helmets even better through a dynamic, 360 degree fit, creating best-in-class fit with no pressure points and use PPS through our development internally and with our brand partners,” explained Dan Feeney, VP of Partner Product Innovation & Development at BOA Technology."
PPS and BOA plan to share insights from the collaboration through a series of articles, documenting the journey from system engineering and mechanical design to prototype testing and validation.
